"Where every root remembers."

Nestled among towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and forests of ancient baobab trees lies Ashango, the oldest kingdom in Nduara.

Ashango is not the richest kingdom.

Nor the strongest.

It is the most respected.

For when the rulers of Nduara seek counsel...They journey to Ashango.

Its people are known as the Keepers of Wisdom, guardians of history, storytellers, historians, philosophers, and spiritual guides whose greatest treasure is not gold—but memory.

The people believe that understanding yesterday is the only way to wisely shape tomorrow.

"The future grows from remembered roots."

Unlike the gifts of other kingdoms, Ashango's people cannot change history.

They cannot travel through time.

Instead...

They possess Echo Sight.

By entering deep meditation, touching sacred places, heirlooms, or standing beneath the Great Baobab, those gifted can witness fragments of the past exactly as they occurred.

These visions cannot be altered.

Only witnessed.

Every memory carries emotion.

Sometimes joy.

Sometimes sorrow.

Sometimes truth people wished had remained forgotten.

Ashangans value wisdom above status.

Children are taught to listen before speaking.

Elders are honored not because they are old...

But because they remember.

No child is considered fully grown until they have sat beneath the Great Baobab during the Night of Remembering, where they hear the stories of those who came before them.

History is not studied.

It is experienced.

Every family keeps an oral history passed from one generation to the next.

A person who forgets their family story is considered spiritually adrift.

Ashango favors natural fabrics woven from flax, bark fiber, and cotton.

Colors reflect the land itself:

  • Earth brown

  • Deep green

  • Gold

  • Burnt copper

  • Ivory

  • Charcoal

Patterns often resemble:

  • Tree rings

  • Flowing roots

  • River currents

  • Concentric circles representing generations

Jewelry is meaningful rather than decorative.

Each bead, carving, or pendant tells part of a family's history.

Ashango is built into the landscape rather than over it.

Stone pathways follow the mountains.

Homes are carved into cliffs or built from timber, earth, and stone.

Massive bridges span waterfalls.

Trees are never removed unless absolutely necessary.

Entire villages are designed around ancient baobabs rather than replacing them.

Nothing in Ashango feels forced.

Everything appears to have grown naturally.

Rather than kings ruling alone...

Ashango is guided by the Council of Roots.

The monarch presides over the council, but every major decision must first pass through respected elders, historians, spiritual keepers, and representatives of the people.

Power belongs to wisdom.

Not ambition.

Children begin learning almost as soon as they can speak.

Subjects include:

  • Storytelling

  • Languages

  • History

  • Astronomy

  • Herbal medicine

  • Philosophy

  • Music

  • Conflict resolution

  • Family lineage

  • Ethics

The greatest scholars become Storykeepers.

They travel throughout Nduara recording history.

Unlike other kingdoms...

Ashango does not worship its Ancestors.

It honors them.

They believe:

"The Ancestors are not above us.

They simply walked the path before us."

Every important decision begins with remembrance.
