The Child of the Lost Echo

The dream returned the following night.

And the night after that.

Each time the child saw the same vision.

A sky torn open by golden light.

The five kingdoms burning beneath black clouds.

A dragon larger than any mountain circling above the world.

And a voice.

Always the voice.

"Awaken."

The child would wake before dawn, heart pounding, covered in sweat despite the cool mountain air.

By sunrise the dream felt distant, like smoke slipping through open fingers.

Yet one feeling always remained.

Fear.

Not fear of the dragon.

Not fear of the darkness.

Fear that somehow the dream was meant for them.

The child lived in a small village nestled among the green hills of Ashango, where life followed the rhythm of the seasons. Farmers tended the terraces. Elders gathered beneath the baobab trees to tell stories. Children played beside crystal streams that flowed down from the Sacred Peaks.

Nothing extraordinary ever happened there.

At least that was what everyone believed.

The child believed it too.

Until the morning the stone awakened.

It happened while gathering water.

The village well stood at the center of town, surrounded by ancient carved pillars older than anyone could remember.

The child placed a bucket beneath the rope and began lowering it.

Then the dream returned.

Not while sleeping.

While awake.

For a brief moment the world vanished.

The child saw a vast doorway made of light.

Beyond it stood shadowed figures.

Watching.

Waiting.

Calling.

The vision lasted only seconds.

When it ended, the village well exploded with golden light.

Everyone nearby stumbled backward.

The water rose into the air without spilling a single drop.

The carved stones surrounding the well began to glow.

Ancient symbols appeared across their surfaces.

Symbols no one had seen for centuries.

The village fell silent.

The elders stared in disbelief.

One of them dropped to his knees.

Another whispered a prayer.

The oldest among them looked directly at the child.

His face had gone pale.

"No," he said softly.

"No... it cannot be."

The child looked around nervously.

"What happened?"

No one answered.

The old elder stepped forward.

His eyes held something far worse than fear.

Recognition.

Slowly, he reached into his robe and removed a small wooden box.

The box was ancient.

Its surface was covered in symbols identical to those now glowing upon the well.

The elder opened it carefully.

Inside rested a crystal unlike anything the child had ever seen.

Dark as midnight.

Yet somehow shining from within.

The moment the child's hand touched the crystal, the world shook.

Far away, across deserts and oceans, deep within forests and beneath mountains, ancient shrines burst into light.

Spirits stirred.

Hidden creatures awakened.

And in the forgotten corners of Nduara, forces long believed extinct opened their eyes.

The prophecy had not been wrong.

The Lost Echo had returned.

And Nduara's greatest age of peace was about to end.

To Be Continued...
